CHRISTMAS AT ST. GEORGE'S

Amid these joyful activities, we try to make space for quiet and contemplation. The four weeks before Christmas Day are called Advent, the season of hope and watchful waiting as we prepare for the birth of Jesus. During Advent, we look for chances to slow down — even briefly — to take stock, to give thanks, and to open ourselves to God’s love and purpose for us. We also know that the lead-up to Christmas can feel overwhelming, rushed, or even lonely. If you are in need of a moment of calm or peace, please do call into the church where you are welcome.

Please also know that you are warmly welcome at any of our Christmas services, whether you come often, occasionally, or haven’t been inside a church before. There is something about a church at Christmas — the beauty, the music, the lights — that can fill us with wonder in a way that goes beyond explanation. We would be happy to share that with you. Advent is a season of expectation and preparation, as the Church prepares to celebrate the coming (adventus) of Christ in his incarnation, and also looks ahead to his final advent as judge at the end of time.

Below is our programme of Christmas services.
