About the event
Celebrating the music of Brighton born Ray Noble (1903 - 1978) jazz musician and big bandleader, pianist, composer and arranger, as well as a radio host, television and film comedian and actor; he also performed in the United States. Noble wrote both lyrics and music for many popular songs during the British dance band era, known as the "Golden Age of British music", notably for his longtime friend and associate Al Bowlly - including his signature tune The Very Thought Of You. Noble wrote his first major hit, the immortal Goodnight Sweetheart in 1931, followed by a catalogue of successful recordings, leading to an invitation to appear with Bowlly in 1934 at the Rainbow Room atop New York's RCA building.
