Service of The Word
St George’s Church
Gentle music is played whilst the congregation gathers
Worship Leader: Today we are thinking about….
Worship Leader: God is Sprit
All: Let us worship him in Spirit and in Truth
(The family of God meet together and recognise each other as brothers and sisters)
Worship Leader: God loves each and every one of us – when we are happy, when we are in times of trouble or distress. If we reach out to God he reaches back and holds our hand and walks with us on life’s pathway
The Peace of the Lord be always with you
All: And also with you
Worship Leader: Let us offer one another a greeting as brothers and sisters. (We say hello to each other on line)
Liturgy of the word:
(God’s story is told from the very first days of creation, through the time in which Jesus walked on earth, and onto the coming of God’s kingdom)
The Following may be read:
Reading from the Old Testament
Reading from the New Testament
Sermon or talk:
This may be a talk given by your worship leader.
We believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
All maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is,
seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
All God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
of one Being with the Father.
All Through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven,
was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary,
and was made man.
All For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again
in accordance with the Scriptures;
All he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit,
All the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son.
All With the Father and the Son he is worshipped and glorified.
He has spoken through the prophets.
All We believe in one holy, catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
All We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come. Amen.
People are encouraged to listen and reflect on the word and its interpretation.
They are encouraged to think about how it might impact on life in joy and in times when we need help.
The prayer leader will lead us in prayer, and then give a time of quiet.
Prayers are in private or shared with the rest of the congregation.
The Prayer which Jesus taught us:
Who art in heaven
Hallowed by thy name
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our trespasses
As we forgive them that trespass against us
And lead us from temptation
But deliver us from evil
For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory
For ever and ever. Amen.
Praise and Thanksgiving:
The worship leader and members of the congregation recount things that we are thankful for
The worship leader leads us in praise of God and God’s creation
Prayers for going home and taking God with us into our homes with our families and friends
